(Gaping) Holes in my wardrobe

Last week my husband and I went to a cocktail/dinner party. While trying to get ready and figure out what to wear, I realized that I have some gaping holes in my wardrobe. Fortunately this past spring I had made my first (and only) LBD. It's made in a linen-like fabric and was perfect to wear for a warm evening out. But that's pretty much all I have to wear for a nice evening out. I convinced myself that I didn't need nice clothes since I'm a SAHM. But I don't live in a cave and it's not like I never go out. I have nice clothes, but nothing really dressy. So now I have a clearer focus on what I should be sewing. After I finish the blazer (actually, after I start the blazer), I'll plan to work on some dress patterns that I have. I've even bought fabric, etc. for many of them. And it would be helpful to have some jackets/shrugs to wear with some of the dresses since I sometimes get too hot with long sleeves, but would like something to cover my arms when it's cold indoors. This is a picture of the dress I wore. I added a sparkly belt to give it a little "umph."

More on jeans

I just bought a new pattern (new for me) for jeans. It's McCall's 5894. I like that it at looks more like the jeans I buy. The waistband is a little different than the other pattern I tried, so maybe these won't dip down as much in the back as the others did. We'll see. At least now I also know what adjustments I need to make in order to make a better fitting pair. That's the main reason I decided to complete the ones I had in the drawer for two years. But, I'm not making jeans now though. I'm currently working on a blazer (Kwik Sew 3715) that I've made before, but I'm using a blue tweed-like fabric this time. I want something that is casual that I can wear with jeans. As the weather (eventually) gets cooler, I want to have something to wear.

Jeans

I didn't have the best luck with the jeans. As I said before, I cut these out about 2 years ago and made no adjustments. They went together fine for the most part. But, the problem was with the fit (that's why there's no picture of me in them). The size was fine (14) and they actually fit okay in the front. The back waist had about a 2" gap (just like many RTW jeans - LOL). So, I won't be wearing them. But I'm glad I put them together. Now I know what adjustments to make or check for the next time. I still want to use the Jalie jeans pattern that I have. Many people seem to have a lot of success with that. I also have two other jeans/pants patterns that I can use. But I think I'm more conscious of fit now than I was when I cut this pair out a couple of years ago. At least now I understand the process off putting together a pair of jeans which should make it easier the next time around.

Jeans adventure

I'm currently working on a pair of jeans (McCall's 5142) that I cut out about 2 years ago. I don't know if they'll fit, but I'm determined to finish them. They were already cut, marked and the interfacing attached so I might as well. In all honesty, they should fit since everything else I've made in the same size (14) has been fine. I just don't know how well the fit will be since I made no adjustments. But, I'm trying to take my time and do a decent job on them. So, wish me luck and we'll see how things go. I have other things I want to make when I'm done, but I don't want to keep changing thread and needles, so I want to finish the jeans soon. But, I had dental work done today and after 4 shots of Novocain, I didn't really feel like much sewing...
